Cuban Parliament in Session on Wednesday

The Assembly will meet in plenary session on August 1, and before that legislators will receive information from ministers.

Bills on road security and the modification of the political administrative divisions will be on the table during those days, legislators stated recently.

Jose Luis Toledo, president of the Commission of Constitutional and Judicial Affairs, highlighted the greater number of warranties for the Cuban population that the new road security legislation will provide.

He noted that the law on administration is related to the division of the province of La Habana in two, Mayabeque and Artemisa; the disappearance of the municipality of Varadero, in the province of Matanzas; and readjustments in the territories of Guantanamo, for a more rational use of resources and local government.

International Relations Commission president Ramon Pez stated that lawmakers will discuss the situation in Haiti, foreign collaboration in several Cuban municipalities, and the role of the UN in solving problems concerning humanity.

They will also debate the relations of Cuba with the European Union, the US military plans against Iran and North Korea, the Cuban Five, and climate change, the official stated.

The deputies will also approve the budget report for 2009 and discuss several initiatives related to services, agricultural production and national defense.
