Great Nobility! The first of them is now an immense school, and the second is the Museum Park Ñico Lopez, which had been declared National Monument. And it was precisely one of the first things done by the triumphal Revolution that begun with the Centenarian Generation which turned garrisons into schools for all, followed by the people. It is enough examples. Great nobility in those ideas!
But the National Rebel Day –as it is called- is much more than that. So much that is takes universal dimensions.
In spite of the set backs from the military view point, the attackers touched glory with their hands: they make the conscience of millions of people shudder. And the people gave the deserved place to its martyrs and heroes. Moncada, small engine that will help start that big engine that moved Granma vessel, that provided Sierra Maestra with energy, encouraged all Cubans and at last and for ever, lightened the sons of this generous Island, who were sentenced to an opprobrious darkness that seemed to be eternal.
It grew, multiplied and made the miracle to universalize breads and fishes, at the same time that satisfied the other hunger which was as cruel as that from the stomach: justice and equality.
And not enough, it crossed the seas and contributed with the internationalist duty, and alphabetized a child who had been ignored or had become a beggar; a farmer that had become the owner of the land; a worker that had started to say the last word, the sick person that is now assisted having no need to wait for the favors of the divine Providence…; it doesn’t matter if Angolan, Ethiopian, Venezuelan or Nicaraguan.
That July 26, 1953, unfortunately, the tyrant could celebrate. But happiness does not last long in those heartless and sooner or later it was the people’s turn to organize the great party. People are still celebrating. And it will celebrate for good. |
