Cuba Demands Israel Lift its Blockade of Gaza Ambassador Rodolfo Benitez, Cuban business attaché at the United Nations, emphasized this demand in the Security Council debate on the issue, The situation on the Middle East .
The diplomat pointed out that Israel must allow free circulation of provision from and to Gaza Strip as well as permanent human access.
The situation in the Middle East is still complex and is marked by permanent instability and insecurity, the Cuban representative said.
The ongoing illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories and other Arab territories by Israel is still the main obstacle to a just and lasting peace in the region, he added.
Addressing the plenary, Benitez said the international community could not remain indifferent to the unsustainable situation in Gaza Strip.
The imposition of restrictions on free circulation and access of people and goods have made the area's recovery and reconstruction practically impossible, he emphasized.
Cuba condemned the criminal attack perpetrated by the Israeli special forces on May 31 at midnight against the flotilla that was anchored in international waters, he pointed out.
That flotilla was carrying humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people living in Gaza Strip, killing or injuring several of its members, he said.
Cuba backs the Human Rights Council's demand for to carry out for a full and impartial international investigation, without delay and under the auspices of the UN secretary general, the Cuban business attaché said.
Once again, Cuba reiterated its position in favor of a just and lasting peace for all the peoples of the Middle East, and the end of Israel's occupation of the Arab territories, in place since 1967. |
