Cuba’s National Ballet Company to Pay Tribute to Mirta Pla

The performance, scheduled for the Garcia Lorca Hall of Havana’s Grand Theater, will pay homage to the exceptional ballerina and maître of the emblematic Cuban dance company.

This presentation will be repeated on July 22, 24 and 25, as part of the activities prepared by the BNC for the summer.

Giselle’s leading roles will be played by Barbara Garcia and Ernesto Alvarez on Thursday, July 22, along with Veronica Corveas as the Queen of the Willis -who will do the same on Saturday, July 24-, while the role of Hilarion will be played by Ernesto Diaz on the four days.

July 23 will have Sadaise Arencibia, Alejandro Virelles and Amaya Rodriguez as main figures, while Viengsay Valdes and Elier Bourzac will go onto stage on Saturday, July 24.

The performance of Yanela Piñera in the role of the young countrywoman has been announced for Sunday, while the role of Albrecht will be played by Javier Torres. Marize Fumero will be the Queen of the Willis.

With Giselle and Alicia Alonso, its exceptional interpreter, Cuba excelled for the first time in the international field of dance.

The choreographic version by the Cuban prima ballerina assoluta, as well as her interpretation of the role of Giselle, has received countless awards over the years, like the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris in 1966.
