Van Van Brings Its Irresistible Joy to Russia

The presentation of the band led by Juan Formell was sufficient to unleash the most diverse emotions and joy in the audience, including a large mass of young dancers, Russian and Cuban, who were keenly awaiting the start of the concert, considered as a real event.

"I think it was a wonderful concert, and I personally am very happy with the outcome," Mario (Mayito) Rivera, one of the voices of the band known as "Cuba's rhythm train," told Prensa Latina.

Following the emotion of the band's first performance in Russia in 25 years, Mayito confessed that being able to visit Moscow was very important for him.

"I represent the new generation of the Nueva Trova [musical movement], which makes me proud and which was present in Moscow at the 1985 World Festival of Youth and Students," Mayito commented.

At that time, the Russian capital brought people together for global solidarity, noted the celebrated Cuban musician, who has helped bring glory the legendary band since joining.

He said he would not leave Russia without bidding farewell to Red Square and remembering the happy moments spent in this country.

Cheparukhin Alexander, president of the "Viva Cuba" Festival organizing committee, described Los Van Van as Cuban music legend that brings prestige to this cultural event.

Considered by critics as an innovator in Cuban music, band director Juan Formell expressed gratitude for the warm welcome by the young people of Moscow.
