Baseball: Lumberjacks Do Not Believe in Lions

With the sharpest axes they could wield, the Lumberjacks made an epic comeback at the playoffs against Industrials and they will be the challengers of Granma, the current champion, in an unprecedented final for the most coveted title of Cuban sport.

The massive offensive exhibited throughout the season, which included homers by Yosvani Alarcon (4-4) and Rafael Vinales (3-2); the masterful pitching of Luis Angel Gomez, who was ratified among the best pitchers of the championship, and an erratic defense of the Blues, were the keys to the triumph of Las Tunas by way of the knockout, a cast that, for the first time, amounts to a podium in national series and will now look for the crown.

Next Saturday, at four o'clock in the afternoon, the play off for the gold begins, at the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium, home of the Lumberjacks.
