The Division General Efigenio Ameijeiras Delgado passed away

In the night of February 9th, the Division General Efigenio Ameijeiras Delgado died at the age of 88 due to a septic shock.

Efigenio was born on September 21st, 1931, in Chaparra, former province of Oriente, in the bosom of a humble and revolutionary family.

From an early age, he identified with the activities of the July 26th Movement, actively participating in the actions against the tyranny. The persecution to which he was subjected determined that he had to travel to Mexico, a country in which he joined the preparations to return to the Homeland in the Granma yacht to restart the war.

He joined the initial nucleus of the Rebel Army and participated in different combative actions, including in the first victorious action of the rebel guerrillas, the attack on La Plata Barracks, while also forming part of the squad led by Raul Castro Ruz.

In the 1958, he was among the founders of the Frank Pais Second Eastern Front, being the Second Chief of the same and Head of the Column No. 6. In that same year, he was promoted to the rank of Commander.

At the triumph of the Revolution, he was appointed as Chief of the National Revolutionary Police. He fought in Playa Giron as Chief of the National Revolutionary Police Battalion that faced the mercenary invasion and also stood out in the fight against the bandits at El Escambray.

During his military career he held different responsibilities, including Chief of the General Staff of the Central Army and Deputy Chief Minister of Combative Preparation, while also ascending in the military ranks until being appointed as General of Division.

He was part of the contingent of the Cuban troops that fulfilled internationalist mission in the republics of Algeria and Angola.

The accumulated merits made him creditor of the status of founder of the Communist Party of Cuba and of the Honorary Title of "Hero of the Republic of Cuba."

At the request of the Division General Efigenio Ameijeiras Delgado, his body was cremated and his ashes will be exposed tomorrow, February 11th, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at the Pantheon of the Veterans of the Necropolis of Columbus.
