International leaders and world personalities expressed their regrets on the death of Eusebio Leal Spengler

Messages from dignitaries, governments, organizations and world personalities continue to express the pain and the solidarity with our country on the physical departure of Eusebio Leal, a universal Cuban who, with his work and thoughts, gained respect and a deep recognition beyond our borders.

Numerous leaders and personalities worldwide conveyed their condolences on the physical departure of Eusebio Leal to the Government and the people of Cuba, and to his family and friends.

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro Moros, said in Twitter: “Sad are the news of the physical departure of Eusebio Leal, a distinguished son of our Heroic Cuba. You can never speak of the modern Cuban history, without paying homage to his invaluable legacy. My embrace and sincere condolences to the Cuban people that today mourn his flight to the eternity”.

His counterpart from the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega Saavedra, and the Vice-President of the same country, Rosario Murillo, sent a message expressing: "He will always be in our hearts, because here we have had him as a brother who loved our memories, our culture, our literature, our crafts, and our popular art, everything he knew to appreciate within the Nicaraguan history, art, tradition, national pride and legacy, as the expert he was; which by following Eusebio's example, we must take care of”.

The President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, published on his official Twitter account: “Eusebio Leal has died. A great historian of the city of Havana, he dedicated most of his life to recovering this capital's heritage. His immense work will always remain on the streets, on the culture, and on the history of Cuba. My condolences and my love for his family and loved ones.

In this sense, a statement published on the website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union, and Cooperation recalls that "Dr. Leal always promoted the defense of the Spanish legacy in Havana and, in general, in Cuba, and he was an essential person in the deepening of our bilateral relationship”, in addition to conveying on behalf of the Spanish Government the condolences for such a sad loss.

On his part, the Irish President recognized through Twitter the sadness after the sensitive death of the Historian of the city of Havana, when stating: “with whom I had the pleasure of meeting repeatedly. Ireland joins the great sorrow of the Cuban people on the loss of their esteemed Historian”.

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Barcena, tweeted that "with great pain I received the news of the departure of Eusebio Leal, the unforgettable tours of Havana in his company and enjoying his intelligence and his sense of humor. To his family, his friends, Miguel Diaz-Canel, his people, my heartfelt condolences. Until always dear Eusebio”.

The ministers of the People´s Power for Foreign Relations and for the Culture of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, and Ernesto Villegas, respectively, also highlighted on Twitter the solidarity with the people, the Government, the intellectuals and the artists of Cuba, after the physical departure of Leal Spengler.

“The contributions of Master Eusebio Leal to the history, the culture, the identity and the knowledge in Cuba and Our America were infinite. He says goodbye to the physical world, while leaving both the present and the future generations with an invaluable legacy to continue forging a worthy humanity”, Arreaza published.

On his part, the Mexican Foreign Affairs Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, regretted through a tweet the death of whom he described as "a great friend of Mexico" while stressed that "his enormous work for the rehabilitation of the Historic Center of Havana has been recognized worldwide".

The Argentine political scientist Atilio Boron discussed the qualities of Eusebio Leal on the social networks. “A universal Cuban, like Retamar: historian, anthropologist, philosopher, exceptional speaker, mind as clear and brilliant as very few. A man of the Renaissance. Manager of the recovery of Old Havana, exemplary revolutionary”, he considered.
