Asela de los Santos, a leading revolutionary and Cuban pedagogue, passed away

Asela de los Santos Tamayo, a leading Cuban revolutionary and pedagogue, died in the early hours of this Thursday, January 23rd, at the age of 90 years.

In the course of her fruitful life, she received numerous decorations, among which stand out the Title of "Work Heroine of the Republic of Cuba"; the Playa Giron Order; the medals of "Fighter of the clandestine struggle" and of "The war of liberation"; the orders "Ana Betancourt" and "Mariana Grajales", and the “Frank Pais” Order of first degree; as well as the Distinction for the Cuban Culture; among others.

Her ideals and love united her for a lifetime to the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Jose Ramon Fernandez.

In compliance with her final will, her body will be cremated and the ashes will be exposed on Saturday, January 25th, starting at 9 am, at the Veterans Pantheon of the Necropolis of Columbus, where they will remain until their subsequent transfer to the Mausoleum of the Second Eastern Front “Frank País”, in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
