The cartoonist Rolando Gonzalez Reyes passed away

In the afternoon of last Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, Rolando Gonzalez Reyes (Roland), a leading cartoonist of the Melaito humorous supplement of Villa Clara, died at the age of 78.

Roland founded in 1968, the said team of comedians with Pedro Mendez.

His artistic life was composed of dissimilar awards on his plastic works and humorous stories, such as the mention at the International Salon of Humor of San Antonio de los Banos in 1970; the First Prize in short story at the National Meeting of Literary Workshops of Camaguey in 1978; the Ifrain Sacerio Guardado Prize, awarded by the UPEC in Villa Clara in the 2014; and the Mario Rodriguez Aleman Prize, awarded by the UPEC in Villa Clara in the 2016.

Several books collect part of his work in graphic humor and humorous tales, including: Tales for a Summer (1978); and Open Yourself (2004), among others.

Rolando Gonzalez Reyes was member of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), and of the International Union of Graphic Humorists.
