Ronaldo Veitia, the coach of the Cuban women's judo team, described the delegation's performance at the 2012 Judo Grand Slam Tournament, held this weekend in France, as positive. The Cuba team won three bronze medals, which went to Idalys Ortiz (78 kg) and Yanet Bermoy (52 kg) in the women category.

In the men's category, Asley Gonzalez (90 kg) won the third bronze medal.

According to Veitia, the performance of the women's team was good because the points they scored will contribute to their Olympic qualification, as the medals brought 120 points each, and each judoka won 36 points per fight.

The tournament was very complicated, due to the high number of competitors from 96 countries, and all whom were trying to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London this summer, Veitia said.

The women's team will travel to Hungary, Germany and Poland, where they will end their European tour. After that, they will participate in the Pan-American Judo Championships in Montreal, Canada, the last qualifying event for the Olympics.
