Cuba Will Not Return to the Organization of American States

Cuba ratified on Wednesday that it is not interested in returning to the Organization of American States (OAS). Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said: “We reiterate that Cuba will not return to the OAS, and it is not interested in having any relations with that organization, which has served the interests of domination, occupation and aggression, as a U.S. platform to attack Latin America and the Caribbean.”

The Cuban government official spoke at a meeting with the Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas, being held in Havana.

In 1962, the OAS expelled Cuba for its decision to build a socialist system and break away from the dictates of the White House.  In 2009, 47 years later, the resolution used to expel Cuba was annulled, but Cuba has turned down the offer to re-join the Organization of American States.
